HEAL's mission is to provide free digital resources of the highest quality that meet the needs of today's health sciences educators. HEAL promotes the preservation and exchange of useful educational assets while respecting ownership and privacy. By using state-of-the-art Internet technologies, HEAL enables educators across the country to efficiently search and retrieve teaching resources from a variety of sources. - History
HEAL was established in 2000 as a joint effort of three health sciences institutions in the United States: the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, the University of Utah Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library, and the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.

HEAL is committed to sharing information with educators and educational organizations. In order to facilitate collaboration, HEAL continues to disseminate information on all its activities, development and services through a variety of publications and presentations.

Highly respected leaders of the health sciences education community guide HEAL's direction and outreach.
- Team
HEAL's multidisciplinary team includes two faculty co-directors, two additional investigators, a program manager, and a full development staff, including application programmers, interface designer, usability specialist, metadata librarian, and training developer. Two managing editors for the review boards and a medical education consultant complete the team.
